Top of the Golf Swing – How to Position the Club Correctly at the Top

If your flexibility allows for it, turn your shoulders and hips until your back faces the target, without moving your feet and knees to much.

At the top, your left arm should remain completely straight and your head should be at the same vertical level that it was when you were addressing the ball.

Your body weight should be mostly on your back – right – foot at this point of the swing.

The shaft of the club should be close to parallel to the ground but not past it.

If the shaft is pointing towards left of the target, your club is laid off. If the shaft is pointing towards right of the target, your club is across the line.

To prefect the Top of the Golf Swing your wrists should be fully hinged at this point and you should feel your body fully coiled, ready for the downswing to begin.

Golf Downswing Weight Transfer Drill

Golf drill on how to promote good weight transfer during the downswing by pushing on your right toes and lifting the heel of your right foot before impact.

Transferring your weight from your right foot to your left is a key element of the downswing. Failure to correctly involve your hips will result in shots that aren’t as powerful as they could be. This drill has you practicing pushing on your right foot during the downswing in order to help push your weight forward towards your left foot.

At the top of the swing, practice pushing on your right toes as you begin your transition from backswing to downswing.

This action will force your right heel to lift from the ground, which would occur naturally in a normal swing.

Use this Golf Downswing Weight Transfer Drill if you tend to begin your downswing using your arms (instead of your hips) or if you feel your weight transfer is not as pronounced as it could be.
