Golf is one of the safest sports, however injury can happen when common sense is not used. These are 5 safety tips that I use and teach to my kids.
Tip # 1
Check weather before you head out. For lighting take cover, remember you have got a metal club in your hands and never hide under the trees. Take water bottles, sunscreen and hat, remember kids. Watch your alcohol intake! Each drink raises the risk for injury.
Tip # 2
Keep track of who is around you, especially children; it is easy to let your guard down. It is the responsibility of every golfer to make sure it is safe before playing a stroke.
Tip # 3
Yell “fore,” the warning in golf to let golfers know that wild ball is heading their way. If you hear fore, take cover, protect your head by covering your head with your arms, make yourself smaller by crouching and watch for the ball. Teach the kids.
Tip # 4
Be courteous of the group ahead of you; never intentionally hit the ball at them into their space. Angry shots have injured or worse.
Tip # 5
Read and follow golf cart safety rules. Keep feet inside of cart, stay on the cart path, watch speed around curves or steep hill and watch for other golf carts crossing paths. Adults drive with hands on the wheel, not children.
These safety tips for golfers use common sense; I also remind my junior buddies of them before we hit the greens.
