If you're new to golfing like I was just a few years back, you're definitely going to want to know how to fix the parts of the course that you temporarily destroy. There are divots, and then there are ball marks. Both fixing a divot and how to repair a ball mark are reliably easy things to do. I know when I first started, I wanted to know how to do both beFORE I went out, so my friends would think I knew what I was doing. Maybe I can help you, too!

Gotta respect the game of golf and its courses. What a wonderful game. But ball marks can make the green inconsistent, so affecting your putt.

First of all, there's a tool for it that you can find at any golf store. Bring your own so you do not have to borrow somebody else's. (It's called a divot repair tool, even though it's really not used for reparing divots. Weird, huh?)

Take the tool and put its prongs in the turf right at the EDGE of the ball depression. Push the edge of the depression to the center in a "gentle twisting motion" (actual words of the GCSAA!). Make sure you go from the edge and not from underneath … a lot of golfers get this one wrong, even experienced ones.

Then finally, simply tap on the repaired green with your foot or club (usually your putter), and be proud of yourself.

Easy thing to do, and it makes all the difference in the world!
