However, this most simple of golf tips can serve as an effective first step. Gripping the club too high when using your sand wedge is the number one reason for the notorious two inch chip landing right back in the sand.

The final golf tip to improve your chipping is to focus. Many golfers are still frustrated after a poor approach shot and immediately embark upon their chip being overly anxious to finally get on the green. This often proves to be their undoing. The simplest of golf tips which can improve all facets of your game is to concentrate, relax and enjoy the game.

I've been trying to perfect my golf swing plane for years now, and just realized that it's super important to get the foundations right first off. I guess this is the same with any sporting endeavor – we need to understand the very first basics and apply these consistently over a period of time to have them become almost automated.

So to get the golf backswing and golf downswing perfected, the first step is having a strong and balanced stance. There are a few schools of thought in golf that speak of quite different theories on the topic. The first is that you should have your feet the same width as your shoulders for a five iron, then widen your stance from there until you get to your driver, when your leg stance resembles a triangle.

The second and opposing is that the key to more power and more control in your golf swing is to narrow your stance so that the MAX width of your feet is only ever as wide as your shoulders. Start with your feet at shoulder width when driving off the tee, then narrow your feet a little for each iron right up to the four or five iron.

This way, the 'narrator status' suggests that by standing with your feet closer together, your legs are always more straight, more up and down like towers, and never resembling a triangle shape. This way you have much more stability and extremely more control and power in your golf swing plane.

The other interesting point here is that a wider place is apparently the No.1 cause of back and hip injuries in golf, and it also causes reverse tilting of the golf swing plane.

Which school of stance do you follow. My suggestion is to try it both ways and see what works best for you. Personally I find the narrows status feet stronger and I am able to hit further (which is always a massive bonus). Plus I have found that since adopting a narrowser stance, I have less back and hip stiffness after playing golf.

Ultimately its a personal choice. It is also tricky if you have played baseball before, as you will want to naturally adopt a wider stance and bend your legs more. This will not work to your advantage as often there is too much movement in the hips which can throw of your drive. With awareness and trial and error, you will discover the best natural stance that works for you, giving you more control and power in your golf swing plane.
