Jordan Spieth Golf Swing Analysis by David Leadbetter – Golf Digest

Breaking down the swing of Jordan Spieth, analysis by golf instructor David Leadbetter. Jordan Spieth’s Swing Gets Analyzed by David Leadbetter.

Today we look at Jordan’s backswing, it’s a pretty classical backswing position from this angle. He gets the left wrist a little bowed and the clubface hangs very open, which means that he’s got a very weak grip, in other words, his left hand is very weak.

But, great length to his backswing, beautiful start to his downswing, lower body leads, we can see upper body follows, great angle retention, and interesting how he has a little bit of a bend with his left arm. In my opinion, that’s just to keep the clubface square through the ball.

Swing Analysis is a great way to pick up golf tips for your own swing keep tuning in for more!

Do You Over Hinge Your Wrists in the Backswing?

Do you have a tendency to over-hinge your wrists too much on the backswing. Maria mentions that it’s pretty rare to find golfers who do over cock their wrists too much on the backswing, but if you do she recommends the following:

1) Make sure your grips aren’t too small, if so these can cause too active wrists.

2) Make sure you are not actually letting go of the club at the top of your backswing.

If neither of the above are your problem, you can also try focusing on maintaining a flat left wrist, as well as try to completely hinge your wrists by the time you are waist high and also make sure that it isn’t actually your arms causing the over-hinging.
