CORRECT FOOTWORK & PRESSURE SHIFT TO START DOWNSWING
Starting your downswing with the correct footwork and therefore correct pressure shift from your trail foot to your lead foot (right foot to left foot for right handed golfers) will allow you to create a chain reaction of movement through your body, so that you can deliver the head of the club back to the ball with maximum speed, to produce maximum shot distance.
Here’s a really easy feedback drill that you can work on to help you achieve the correct pressure shift in your feet at the correct time during your downswing.
Why The Take Away is So Important?
It’s the first move of your golf swing that can affect the outcome of your shot. We can make huge gains in our swing if we begin the takeaway properly.
Dustin Johnson talks about the importance of his takeaway. He knows if his takeaway gets off his ball flight will suffer.
If you watch Justin Thomas and the move he does right before every swing you will notice he is working on his take away every swing.

Specifically, your lead arm. What’s it doing? If it is over-rolling you could be in trouble. Let’s find out why. It could explain that slice or pull golf shot.

One of the obvious differences between pros and amateurs is the way they transfer pressure in the takeaway from their lead foot to start the golf swing.
Stop scooping the ball and start trapping it
Why do you scoop the ball into the air? It’s because you have a knuckles up release. Learn to keep your knuckles down as you release the golf club for longer penetrating golf shots.
In today’s video Todd Sones has a great drill you can work on to start releasing the club with the knuckles down so you can stop scooping the ball and start trapping it.
